The Weirdest World Records Ever Set

Humanity has climbed Everest, crossed oceans and landed on the Moon. But somehow, we’ve also spent decades growing fingernails longer than a school bus, collecting thousands of rubber ducks and organizing giant pillow fights.

The wonderful thing about Guinness World Records is that it treats every achievement equally. Whether you’re a world-class athlete or the owner of an alarming number of hotel door signs, there may be a place for you in the record books.

Here are ten of the weirdest world records ever officially verified.

The Woman With 42 Feet of Fingernails

Most people trim their fingernails every week or two. Diana Armstrong of the United States chose a different path.

Armstrong holds the Guinness World Record for the longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever (female). When officially measured, her nails had a combined length of 1,306.58 cm (42 ft 10.4 in).

That’s longer than many city buses.

The World’s Widest Mouth

If you’ve ever struggled to take a bite out of a large burger, Samantha Ramsdell probably wouldn’t understand your problem.

The American influencer holds the Guinness World Record for the widest mouth (female), measuring 10.33 cm (4.07 in) across.

It’s one of those records that sounds fake until you see the photographs.

The Human Spoon Magnet

Abolfazl Saber Mokhtari from Iran has spent years mastering a highly unusual skill.

In January 2025, he balanced 96 spoons on his body simultaneously, setting the Guinness World Record for the most spoons balanced on the body.

Whether this is talent, science or wizardry remains open to debate.

The World’s Largest Rubber Duck Collection

Some people collect stamps.
Charlotte Lee collects rubber ducks.
A lot of rubber ducks.

Her officially verified collection contains 5,631 different rubber ducks, making it the largest rubber duck collection in the world.

At some point, a hobby becomes a lifestyle.

The Fastest 100-Metre Run in High Heels

Running 100 metres is hard enough. Running 100 metres in high heels sounds like a terrible idea.

Yet Andre Ortolf of Germany completed the distance in just 12.42 seconds, earning the Guinness World Record for the fastest 100 metres in high heels (male).

Most people would be happy simply reaching the finish line without falling over.

The Most T-Shirts Worn at Once

Packing too many clothes for a trip is one thing. Wearing 260 T-shirts simultaneously is another.

Canadian Ted Hastings achieved exactly that, setting the Guinness World Record for the most T-shirts worn at once.

The resulting outfit looked less like clothing and more like geological layers.

The Largest Water Pistol Fight

Sometimes a world record requires thousands of participants. The largest water pistol fight ever recorded involved 3,875 people and took place in the United States.

It may also be the world’s most entertaining way to get completely soaked.

The World’s Largest Collection of “Do Not Disturb” Signs

Most travellers leave hotel door signs behind. German collector Rainer Weichert decided to keep them. Lots of them.

His collection contains 11,570 different “Do Not Disturb” signs from around the globe, making it the largest collection of its kind ever recorded.

Proof that almost anything can become a passion.

The Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs

If someone told you that thousands of adults once gathered in public dressed as Smurfs, you might question their judgement.

In 2025, the French town of Landerneau set a Guinness World Record when 3,076 people dressed as Smurfs gathered in one place.

The photographs are every bit as blue as you would hope.

The World’s Largest Pillow Fight

Most pillow fights involve siblings. This one involved 7,681 people.

In Minneapolis, thousands of participants gathered to set the Guinness World Record for the largest pillow fight ever recorded.

Few records combine childhood nostalgia, organised chaos and airborne feathers quite so perfectly.

Why We Love Weird World Records

Not every world record changes history.

Some simply remind us that humans are wonderfully creative, gloriously eccentric and occasionally willing to devote years of effort to goals that nobody else would ever consider.

And honestly, the world would be a little less interesting without them.
